Engine is in the very lean condition at this moment. Reading through the threads on hot start issue, you may conclude that most or a lot of these issues are related to fuel supply. Your system seems to be working perfect when cold.You can briefly check the influence of operation of the cold start system on your hot start by manually providing power to Cold Start Valve while cranking hot engine. You may consider becoaming a Full Member - it is not a huge investment, it pays off very, very quickly. The details of these systems are described in the Technical Manual, in the sectin for Full Members.

My impression is Mercedes have never solved this issue really. The same set of devicces is responsible for some injection during warm start, but it may not work during the warm start. In essence it is about a temperature feeling device sending a signa to activate a Cold Start Valve on the intake manifold to inject additional portion of fuel for certain time and in certain engine temperature conditions. Type "hot start issue" - exactly like I wrote and you will see many results.Īs for the starting aid, primarily cold - there are, I think 3 systems, older and newer on our cars. It looks like there are two starter valves: a cold start valve (CSV) and, I guess, the not-cold-start-valve (I'm learning, be nice!). Recently, when I drive it for about 10 minutes to get to the gas station, I pump the gas, and then try to start it up and it won't start. No issues aside from needed to give it a few pumps as to not shut off since it's cold. My 66 starts up after sitting for a month or two in an instant. So the entire engine was taken apart to inspect if any other problems were present. I am not as familiar with automotive repairs as my dad and granddad were, but consider myself handy and would like to learn more about the car rather than take it to the one guy in town who works on this class of vehicle. Of the people I spoke with who had used the radiator shop, they all had good results, but their cars are show cars that only get a few miles per year, then sit in comfortable polished garages. They would do a caustic boil, phosphoric wash, then sealer. The best old school radiator shop near me looked at it and said no problem fixing mine. My local Mercedes dealership quoted me over $1100 for a new genuine tank.

Condensation above the fuel line I suppose? The exterior is like new, but inside the bottom and sides are very clean and the whole top is rusty. I drained what was left of the gas after evaporation (nasty molasses gunk and solids). The tank was filled with gas before it was garaged. I've wire brushed, scraped, prodded the area, and this seems to be the only damage. One is 1/8" round, the second is 1/16" wide and an inch long. Long story short, I've gone through and cleaned the entire fuel system lines, pump, regulator, etc, replaced the necessary, now faced with a fuel tank that I found two pinholes in the top along a seam. I have a 1966 250se coupe that I've been working to get back driving after sitting in a garage since 1992.
